  Taste the difference with Organic
January 2008

Editor] After a festive Christmas and New Year in early January, we felt like we wanted to try and live and eat healthy for a change!  Having always been intrigued about ‘Organic’ produce, we decided to order a box of organic fruit and veg from one of our advertisers – Riverford OrganicVegetables.

We ordered a mixed box of seasonal fruit and vegetables from their website www.riverford.co.uk.  Ordering was easy as we found the website comprehensive and quick to understand, however, we could just have easily ordered over the phone.  It’s not expensive, prices start for a mini box of organic vegetables at £7.90 and delivery is free.

The ‘Organic’ Box was delivered promptly on the day we were informed it would be.  The fruit and vegetables were very fresh, colourful and, after trying some of the salad items for our tea, – very tasty.  We were surprised at how much nicer and juicier the salad, fruit and vegetables were compared to our usual supermarket purchases.

So, we would say to anyone, give it a whirl as you won’t be disappointed!  The other advantage of getting your fruit and veg this way is you get to try items that you wouldn’t normally purchase – such as Kale and Avocado from our box.  There are some great recipes to try out on the Riverford website if you get stuck for a meal idea.

A little about Riverford locally – Darren and Michele manage distribution in the Nantwich area.  Darren, originally a Finance Manager, spent much of his time in London and with a young family, found this difficult.  When Michele was ready to work again as their children were at school, they decided to embark on a life changing journey and look for something that would give them all a better quality of life.

Together, they decided to buy into the Riverford Organics franchise in our local area – they live in Nantwich themselves.  They liked the idea as it has a quality product - and one they believe in - with a direct link back to the farm which addresses the rising concerns about how and where food is produced.  Hence, now residents of Nantwich can purchase quality organic produce that are delivered direct to their door!

It is Riverford’s unique approach that helps to make sure that the boxes are great value for money. Most vegetables are picked on the farm one day and delivered free direct to your door the next. The vegetable boxes come in varying sizes, for one person up to a large family.   Riverford Organic Vegetables grow and harvest over 85 varieties, all selected for their flavour and seasonality (not cosmetic perfection!), which means the boxes are always interesting and varied throughout the year.
